Poetry Thursday #18: Would You Like A Free Cup of Coffee Ma’am?

That is the sweet sound I heard when I walked into a BP fuel station today, to pay for my fuel. About a year or so ago BP introduced the Wild Bean Cafe into most of their fuel stations. They make pretty damn good coffee by anyone’s standards, but most importantly, by my standards. :P . So when the nice lady walked up to me with a cup of coffee in her hand and asked me that question, I gave her a you-must-be-crazy-for-even-asking look and practically snatched the cup of coffee out of her hand before she could change her mind… all with a friendly smile on my face of course. I walked out of BP with about AU$65 worth of 98 octane fuel (thats about 48 liters) and a yummy cup of coffee, and then I got into my 180 and drove it to work. Ah, what a nice morning; free delicious coffee and a drive in my 180. So, in honour of my free cup of coffee, here’s a rather silly Poetry Thursday poem.

Poetry Thursday #17: Tectonic Shifts

Thought I’d give PT’s “random word generator” a try today. The word it gave me was “tectonic”.

Poetry Thursday #14: Polite Society

The PT challenge for this week is “The One with All the Rules, part II”. Basically, we have to write a poem using a line contributed by a fellow participant from one of their poems. I only found the time to visit PT and find out about this challenge today, so my apologies for not contributing a line myself. I figured it might be a little too late for anyone to be interested in using it. The line I chose to include in my poem is “hide their fangs behind”. This line was provided by Tina from A Fish With Wings.

Poerty Thursday #13: Eucalyptus

Last week’s prompt at Poetry Thursday was to write a poem motivated by an image. As my blog was down from Thursday to Friday I couldn’t participate then, but I did have a poem prepared. It was one I wrote and posted a week or two before, but not for PT. It sort of fit in with the challenge though so I decided to bump it up as a PT post. This poem was originally inspired by a sound; the rustling of leaves in the wind. So I sat down to write a poem about the wind or weather. But everytime I looked up from my writing, and out my window, I saw the big eucalyptus trees that were being “rustled” by the wind. In the end the poem turned into one about those trees. consisting of only 3-line stanzas, it does sound a little weird to me, and isn’t as rythmic as my poems usually are, but let me know what you think. I took a picture of the view from my window to go with it.

Poetry Thursday #12: Frustration

This week I decided not to go with the Poetry Thursday prompt. Instead, I thought I’d answer the “Ask Poetry Thursday” question: What do you do when you have writer’s block?

Strangely enough, I write.

Poetry Thursday #11: Here It Comes

I was going to do a Thursday Thirteen this week but I looked in on the Poetry Thursday website and liked their challenge for the week, so my planned TT has been postponned till next week. The PT challenge for this week is “No names, please”. basically, we were challenged to write about something we find beautiful without naming it. Guess what was hanging in the air in my neighbourhood when I read the challenge? *lol* You don’t have to be the most astute of people to figure out what my poem is about, but I hope that you enjoy it and that it fits in with the theme of the challenge.

Poetry Thursday #10: Patience

This week’s completely and totally optionaly idea for Poetry Thursday participants is “prose poetry”. I’ve never written any prose poetry. In fact, I hadn’t even heard the term before last week. As I understand it, this is a somewhat controvercial form of poetry. In fact, some argue that its not even poetry. As far as I can tell, prose petry is poetry without the normal line breaks. Like a prose it should be somewhat narrative, while displaying the language stylings more common to poetry. I thought I’d give this format a try. I took an old poem that I’ve never been terribly happy with and tried to change it a little to fit into this format. The poem itself is a metaphore hidden in a narrative so I thought it kind of fit with the concept of prose poetry. I don’t know if it does really work as prose poetry. I hope I didn’t miss the mark by too much. Let me know what you think.

Poetry Thursday #9: A Thousand Regrets

This week’s completely and totally optionaly idea for Poetry Thursday participants is “change”. This seams like the perfect theme to move over another one of my old poems. This one needs a little bit of explanation though. Its a fanfic poem about a character called Methos from Highlander: The Series (he was also in the last Highlander movie). Methos is supposed to be one of the oldest imortals around. In his early years (we’re talking around the bronze age here) he was pretty “evil”. He and 4 other imortals formed the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse (he was Death), raiding and pillaging wheerever they went. Over the centuries he’s changed his ways and now he’s one of the good guys… sort of (more of an anti-hero than a hero). The poem was inspired by a piece of artwork that Jesse created. From the first time I saw the piece (a set of stairs she found near her house) I felt that there was a poem attached to it. I didn’t intend for it to be a fanfic poem when i sat down to write it, but thats what came out. So, enough with the prattling on, I give you the poem “A Thousand Regrets”, and the piece of artwork that inspired it.
