Yeah, someone knocked on our door this evening and offered asked almost begged to buy my car… No, I haven’t got it up for sale, he was just passing by and saw it. And no, I don’t think I will sell it. Mainly because I won’t be able to afford anything better right now.

I had to travel about 2 hours out to the country at 7am this morning to help 7 other people count out 100 germinated seedling in each of 580 plots. We were facing a day out in the muck with 16 degrees celcius temperatures and a forecast of rain and possible thunderstorms. Thankfully, while it was certainly that cold and there was a nasty wind blowing, we got almost no rain while we worked and only had to run for the cover of the vehicles once. On top of that the company bought us breakfast, morning tea, and lunch and we got all the work done in record time. So all in all it wasn’t a too unpleasant trip for some field work in the country. It was kinda nice even (although my back is kinda complaining now). Anyway, I digress. Knowing the people who were organising the trip and having listened to the weatherman, I was expecting it to be a bit of a fiasco, so one would think that having to wake up at 0530 in the morning and facing a day like that, I’d have been somewhat grumpy. But no, I wasn’t. It would be pretty difficult to catch me in a bad mood on a Wed morning these days. If you do, it wouldn’t be entirely far-fetched for you to assume that for some reason a new episode of season 11 of Top Gear didn’t air in the UK that week. Tehehe I love that show. According to Jad, the theme song (which I use as my ring tone ) always makes me smile, even when I’m feeling grumpy. Anyway, that was my (very) roundabout way of leading to this week’s episode.

Everytime I hear something new about Honda I’m just left amazed. What a car company. OK, so their news about dropping the NSX was a little dissapointing and their concept for the CR-X replacement (CR-Z I think) wasn’t as cool as the old CRXs and their new Civic Type R was a tad less gutsy than one would have expected… Tehehe allright, so not EVERYTHING I hear about Honda leaves me amazed then. But they are an astounding car company. They’re certainly the only truly innovative car company of the Asian lot. The new V6 Accord’s variable cylinder technology is just further proof of that.

Carsguide is now calling for votes on who we think should host the new Top Gear Australia series. I have my doubts about this. the 2 things that make Top Gear UK work so well are the cars and (more importantly) the hosts.

The Advertising Standards Council gets plenty of complaints about car ads inciting irresponsible behaviour, circles in paddocks, running around town naked. That sort of thing.

Driving to mom’s the other day I saw a Corolla with not one, but TWO “baby on board” signs on display in it’s back windscreen. Now, this sign has never really made sense to me. What do these parents think? That there are people out there just driving around, looking for cars to run into, and this sign is going to make them choose not to run into said baby-taxi? “Hmmm, you know what I really, really feel like doing today? I just have to crash my car into sombody else’s. Oh, look, theres a car! Awww, carp. Its got a baby inside. Better not run into that one. I’ll run into the car next to it instead. That one doesn’t have a baby inside. I know because it doesn’t have a ‘baby on board’ sign on display.”

That is the sweet sound I heard when I walked into a BP fuel station today, to pay for my fuel. About a year or so ago BP introduced the Wild Bean Cafe into most of their fuel stations. They make pretty damn good coffee by anyone’s standards, but most importantly, by my standards. . So when the nice lady walked up to me with a cup of coffee in her hand and asked me that question, I gave her a you-must-be-crazy-for-even-asking look and practically snatched the cup of coffee out of her hand before she could change her mind… all with a friendly smile on my face of course. I walked out of BP with about AU$65 worth of 98 octane fuel (thats about 48 liters) and a yummy cup of coffee, and then I got into my 180 and drove it to work. Ah, what a nice morning; free delicious coffee and a drive in my 180. So, in honour of my free cup of coffee, here’s a rather silly Poetry Thursday poem.
