Teehehehe, people in the northern continents might not appreciate this all that much, but I’m sure there are many people in Australia and New Zealand that will see the irony. Apparently, in Olympia, Washington theres a group of raccoons that have become quite fierce. They’ve killed 10 cats, and attacked a small dog and a cat owner (who, from what I can gather, only got attacked because she tried to pull them off her cat). Coming from a country where cats are the biggest predator that native wildlife face, I think said wildlife suddenly turning on cats is just so very fitting. Maybe our possums should learn from these raccoons.
If you want to own cats so badly then heres an idea, KEEP THEM INDOORS! Or build them a cat-run. This will keep them from harming native animals and stop the wildlife from turning on them as well. When the ‘burbs start encroaching on native habitats, you’ll get 1 of 2 outcomes; extinction or adaptation. The raccoons are adapting. Good on them! If you want to keep them out of your neighbourhood, take away their food souce. Keep trash cans secured, keep your small pets indoors and DON’T FEED THEM! Don’t overlook the fact that they are WILDlife just because they’re cute.
