I have a question for y’all. Let’s say you’re sitting in your car at some traffic lights, waiting for them to change. What are your feet doing at this point? Do you have one foot pressed firmly down on the break pedal while the other takes a break, or sits over the accelerator or has a cup of tea or something? Or do you, per chance, not bother with the break and have your foot hovering over the accelerator waiting to go?

Man, I never thought I’d hear myself say that. But I am saying it, for one reason, and for one reason only! Top Gear is back on the air.

Soooo… Jad and I went down to Ross’s Auction on Saturday at the behest of the Frü. They were auctioning off alcohol amongst other things; cases of Jack Daniels, Gentleman Jack, Single Barrel Jack Daniels and a whole bunch of other stuff, including vodkas and heaps of beers. We didn’t think we’d get much, but then the auction started and we found that they were mostly going for incredibly low prices.

…are people so afraid of spiders?
In my Wordless Wednesday post yesterday I posted a couple of pictures of golden orb weaver spiders. The majority of the comments were from people that were either disgusted by them or afraid of them, or both. So why do spiders creep people out so much? I’ve never understood it. I love them. I always have.

These are a couple of golden silk orb-weaver (genus Nephila) spiders that a friend of mine breeds on her front porch. They are also commonly called golden orb-weavers or banana spiders due to the yellow colour of their web (which you can just make out in the pictures below, but you’ll find much clearer in the larger versions you’ll get if you click on said pictures). This particular variety (Nephila edulis) is found throughout Australia and is commonly known as the edible golden silk spider (while, to my knowledge, they’re not eaten here in Oz, they are a common fried delicacy in New Guniea). Females body lengths reach about 23mm, while the males only grow to about 6mm (these are the females).

Well, the weekend and the con are over. Back to work now. It went well. There was much drinking, and playing of Settlers of Cattan and Betrayal At House On The Hill. On Sat night Jad and I only got about 2 to 3 hours sleep. Needless to say, last night we got about 10 hours sleep to make up for it. It was pretty much a weekend full of board gaming and socialising for me (met some pretty interesting people). Although there were various LARPs, panels, games of laser tag and killer, and such, going on I didn’t participate in them. I watched for a while, but most of my time was spent in the board gaming rooms. Although I played about 4 or 5 games of Betrayal over the weekend, only once did we play a scenario that I had come across before. So that was cool.

Well, I didn’t get a chance to have a go at photographing the comet yesterday. We rented Hoodwinked! and I forgot all about the comet. Hoodwinked! is an animated whodunnit set in fairy tale land. Somebody is stealing goody recipes all through the forest, and putting all the sweet and snack shops out of business. Now fate has brought Granny, Red Riding Hood, the Wolf and the Woodcutter together and the cops are out to find out what happeend between the 4 of them and who the goody thief really is.

No poetry Thursday post from me today. Been too busy to write anything and I saw something yesterday that I thought was worth mentioning on my blog today anyway.
