I was going to do a Thursday Thirteen this week but I looked in on the Poetry Thursday website and liked their challenge for the week, so my planned TT has been postponned till next week. The PT challenge for this week is “No names, please”. basically, we were challenged to write about something we find beautiful without naming it. Guess what was hanging in the air in my neighbourhood when I read the challenge? *lol* You don’t have to be the most astute of people to figure out what my poem is about, but I hope that you enjoy it and that it fits in with the theme of the challenge.

While Jad was off having fun at the Ignition DVD cruise (THE biggest car cruise of the year) I was off becoming an Aussie citizen. It’s all official now. I’m actually rather disappointed that I missed the cruise. While I am happy to be an Aussie now, I’m really not one for pomp and ceremony (which is why I let Jad off the hook and told him not to come. After all, if I don’t believe in it why should he be forced to sit through it?). Wish I could have just gotten my certificate in the mail or something. Hehehe it would have been cool to have a totally automotive-oriented weekend; car cruise on Fri, drifting Sat, drifting Sun… On that note, the weather forecast has been updated to evening thunderstorms on Sat and risk of a possible afternoon thunderstorm on Sun. Everyone keep your fingers crossed (for me) that it doesn’t rain, or if it does it happen late enough that the drifting will be over by the time it starts.

Because the number of picture I can store on my camera’s memory stick far exceeds the number of pictures I could take with one set of batteries (and its always a good idea to have spares around anyway), Jad and I went out and bought some more Sony rechargeables for said camera. I charged one set of them a couple of weeks ago, put them in my camera, turned it on and snapped a picture or two. They worked fine. Then I put the camera away for two weeks and when I tried to turn in on again a couple of days ago I found that the batteries had died. I bought faulty batteries dammit. And now, although I did find the receipt, I don’t have time to go back to the store in the city before the drifting starts tomorrow. The main reason we bought them is so that I could keep the camera going through a whole day of drifting. Bah! I’m just going to have to charge them through the night, hope they last for at least a little while tomorrow and then fall back on the original batteries that came with the camera. Then sometime next week/weekend I’ll take them back to the shop and demand replacements or my money back or something. How irrimatating.

Usually when I bring up the subject of a drifting event, Jad teases me about it being cancelled. This time he might actually end up being right .The weather bureau forecasts evening showers for Saturday and thundery showers for Sunday. That is NOT good drifting weather. I wonder what they’ll do if the track ends up being too wet to drift on . Unfortunately weather forecasting has gotten pretty acurate in recent years so theres not much chance of the bureau being wrong, unless a good wind kicks in and blows the storm over and away from us. One can only hope. *sigh* I really do hope that the first ever national competition that gets held here doesn’t end up being a wash-out. You would think that holding an outdoors event in the middle of summer in a semi-arid area would be a safe bet, but nooooooo our weather has to go and get freaky on us. I have to admit that I’ve been pretty pleased with the unusually mild summer we’ve had this year… up till now that is. *sigh* Blah!
Unrelated Update: Two new additions to my blogroll. Coincidentally they’re both Chris’; one from the US (Walking the Long Road) and one from the UK (Thermal).

… is coming to town!!! YAY! Next weekend (24th and 25th of Feb) will see the first ever Drift Australia even to be held in WA… Considering the politics around getting it here, this could quite well be the first and last time it comes here. This is the first round of DA for the year, so they’ll be opening up the 2007 season here. As is usual for drifting events, the WASCC will be hosting it down at Barbagallo Raceway. Peeps in Perth and surrounding areas, COME! Tickets are $15 for Sat, $25 for Sun or $35 for the 2 days. Jad (poor thing) and I will be there both days and I’ll be clicking away with my camera. Hehehe yes, this does mean that a fair number of my posts for the next couple of weeks, at least, will be drifting related.
Update: The Drift Australia website now has the full event schedule posted.

This week’s completely and totally optionaly idea for Poetry Thursday participants is “prose poetry”. I’ve never written any prose poetry. In fact, I hadn’t even heard the term before last week. As I understand it, this is a somewhat controvercial form of poetry. In fact, some argue that its not even poetry. As far as I can tell, prose petry is poetry without the normal line breaks. Like a prose it should be somewhat narrative, while displaying the language stylings more common to poetry. I thought I’d give this format a try. I took an old poem that I’ve never been terribly happy with and tried to change it a little to fit into this format. The poem itself is a metaphore hidden in a narrative so I thought it kind of fit with the concept of prose poetry. I don’t know if it does really work as prose poetry. I hope I didn’t miss the mark by too much. Let me know what you think.
