Last week’s prompt at Poetry Thursday was to write a poem motivated by an image. As my blog was down from Thursday to Friday I couldn’t participate then, but I did have a poem prepared. It was one I wrote and posted a week or two before, but not for PT. It sort of fit in with the challenge though so I decided to bump it up as a PT post. This poem was originally inspired by a sound; the rustling of leaves in the wind. So I sat down to write a poem about the wind or weather. But everytime I looked up from my writing, and out my window, I saw the big eucalyptus trees that were being “rustled” by the wind. In the end the poem turned into one about those trees. consisting of only 3-line stanzas, it does sound a little weird to me, and isn’t as rythmic as my poems usually are, but let me know what you think. I took a picture of the view from my window to go with it.

10 and a half years ago I joined the masses of people on the WWW and discovered a chat room called Cygnus. I met a lot of interesting people, some not so interesting people, and offcourse some scum (but not as many of them as you’d expect) there. A couple of years later the chat room closed down and everyone went their respective ways. Off and on I kept in touch with some of the people I met there, mainly members of the Hawaiian Freak Show; Ash, MacSamurai, Wired (sort of), and of course k@os and the TechWench formerly known as Priss (without those two I probably wouldn’t have this blog to write on right now). A couple of days ago I found a surprise comment left on one of my posts. It was from another long-lost Cygnus chatter; Limblifter. Random but cool. I like having these people I used to spend so much time with popping out of the woodwork like that. Nice to know how they’re doing, especially when they seam to be doing as well as Limblifter is.

As I mentioned in the previous post, my blog was down for a couple of days last week. I thought everything was up and working again, until yesterday. You see, I have the blog set so that whenever anyone posts a comment it sends me an email. The email has the full details of who, what where, etc. Since I generally don’t get more than a couple of comments a day (unless I make a WW, PT or TT post), I can safely do this without having my blog spam my inbox. I also find it kinda handy coz then I don’t have to bother coming to Rav`N’s Realm until I know theres something here to read and/or reply to. Anyway, yesterday I got an email detailing a comment Ma had made to my last post. However, upon arriving at Rav`N’s Realm to read and reply to said comment, it was nowhere to be found; not in the comments list of the post it was supposed to be at, not in my folder of approved comments, nor was it in the spam comments folder. So, according to my emails Ma made a comment here and according to this blog she didn’t… I think they’re conspiring to make me doubt my sanity… Hmm, maybe Ma is in on it too. She could be the mastermind behind the whole thing. Maybe she’s taken up blog hacking as a mischievous new hobby.

Took Kali to the vet yesterday to get her annual vaccination and heart worm shots. She got a completely clean bill of health. The vet actually gives owners a card where they list things like “coat and skin condition”, “heart”, “paws”, “ears”, etc and Kali got ticks in all the boxes. That’s cool, besides the fact that I just generally want my pets and family to be healthy, considering the fact that I just got another dog, I don’t want anything expensive to start going wrong with my older one. Mom’s been worried because she barely eats any of her food these days. Maybe 1 of the 2.5 cups we give her. But the vet thinks that she’s just regulating her eating according to the amount of exercise she’s getting. I’ve got a figure conscious dog!!!

Jad and I had an early morning visitor a few days ago. We woke up to find a young huntsman spider sitting on our blinds. They eat insects and small lizards, so I’m quite happy to have them around.

Weird Al was awesome… Loud, but awesome. He did most of his stuff from the new album, and a lot of old stuff as well, including favourites such as Yoda, The Saga Begins, Eat It, Fat, etc. He dressed up in all the apropriate costumes for each song as well of course. There were a few newer ones that aren’t on his album too, such as a song about the ever nototrious Ms. Spears.

Hehe, cool. I got into work today and found a slice of cake in the fridge with my name on it. The big boss left it there for me, to say thanks for some work I did for him. You see, although the company I work for is a proper company in structure, it’s not a self-supporting company yet. We don’t make enough profits to support us and are still more R&D-oriented than production-oriented. Because the university is one of our share-holders and most of our more senior staff also teach classes and take on honours and post-grad students, we operate out of the university. But we have our own admin staff, our own structure and various fundings that don’t have much to do with the uni. So, while I am paid through the uni, my pay is actually coming from the company, via the univeristy. Anyway, back to the original story. A week or so back a couple of us techie staff spent an hour sorting out and putting together seed packets for one of those university classes that our CEO teaches. This had nothing to do with our job descriptions and was completely unrelated to the company. Because we did him that favour, he left us surprise cake to say thanks. Yay! cake.
