Or maybe mum had an affair or something. It being Deepavali today a whole bunch of dad’s family have come to visit at grandma’s. Listening to and watching them, I’ve decided that I can’t possibly be related. All they seam to be able to talk about is babies and gossip about dead people.

When in Malaysia and visiting an Indian family, if they ask you if you’d like to eat something, whether it’s just edibles in general or some specific dish, don’t bother saying no. They develop sudden acute deafness after asking questions of this sort. Don’t worry, your host’s condition is only temporary, but chances are they will not regain their hearing until the subject has been changed, and you have been stuffed to their satisfaction. Protestations of any sort will not even be acknowledged in any way. I have to admit tho, I have not yet tried the “I am deathly allergic to…” excuse. I wonder if even that would work.

I really do. I’ve loved flying since I was a kid. People used to tell me that I only enjoyed it so much because I used to fly first/business class (my dad worked for an airlines company), but I’ve been flying economy for the last 7 or 8 years and I still love it. I even somewhat enjoy the food. I always try to get a window seat near the wings. I love watching all the flaps on the wings making their tiny little adjustment. It always makes me marvel over how all those tonnes of metal and human manages to stay so safely up in the sky. I love looking out the window and seeing the land pass beneath us as well. Everything looks so different from up there. Night-time flying is cool too; seeing all those pockets of lights and trying to figure out if they’re cities or towns or villages, watching vehicles travel along roads like glow-in-the-dark ants. I always feel just a little bit disappointed when I have to get off a plane at the end of a flight.
