Stuff About Me/This Blog

Well, I’m not big on giving out lots of details about me for any random person to find out. However if you stick around long enough you probably will find out/pick up quite a bit of info. But I’ll make an effort here to give you a rough idea at least.

My Name: Nope, sorry, that only gets given out on a fairly strict need-to-know basis. Or once I’ve known you long enough. I’m just paranoid that way. Besides, I like Rav or Rav`N. She was an identity I came up with when I first found my way online and joined the Cygnus chat room. I guess she was my earliest efforts at role-playing. I still vaguely remember the “mage wars” I used to participate in with some of the people in that chat room.

General stuff: I’m Indian, Malaysia, soon to be Australian *lol*. Yeah, I know that sounds a bit confusing. I guess the important part is that I live in Australia. I’m also a molecular biologist by trade.

Stuff I like:

  • Comics (Batman, Spidey, etc)
  • Reading and watching fantasy/sci-fi
  • Role-playing (especially Deadlands)
  • Drifting cars (well ok, right now I only watch, but hopefully someday)
  • Computer games. Mainly strategy stuff like Sid Meier’s Civilisation (IV rocks), Industry Giant, Civ City: Rome and Caesar IV. I can’t play FPS games. They aggravate my motion sickness.
  • Board games (Scrabble, betrayal at House on the Hill, Settlers, Ticket to Ride, etc).

What I drive: An under-powered 1.5L 1997 Mitsubishi Lancer GLi. Its a “Revolution”, which basically means it’s got a body kit and stuff to make it look a little bit like an Evo. I’m not happy with the lack of power but I absolutely LOVE the suspension set-up on the car. It almost makes up for the lack of power.

Why this blog: Because k@os made me. Hehe. I started dabbling in html and creating websites way back during my Cygnus days. The old Rav`NsRealm was the result of all that. More recently, the people I’d met back then (and manage to stay in touch with/ get back in touch with), namely k@os and Tech Wench, had started blogging and k@os felt rather strongly that I should start a blog of my own. I expressed interest, but never really got around to starting one. So he got tired of waiting for me to design my own blog and designed one for me. What you see now is the product of his efforts, and Tech Wench’s generous hosting.

The image of Rav`N: that you see in the top left hand corner was created for me by a very good high school friend, G.I used it on my old website, and when k@os started designing my blog I insisted that we incorporate that image in some way again. He altered the “magic” coming out of the cup to make it look like a raven.

Well, there you go. That’s about all I can think of to say I guess. I’ll end this with some contact info:

If you wish to, you can email or IM me at ravnwolfstorm@yahoo.com

  1. Fascinating background… and a damned cool alter ego you’ve imagined into existence for yourself! ;) …very creative.

You visited me yesterday at Image & Verse. First, thank you for coming!

Secondly, while at my site, you read my post on ‘how I evoke my writing muse’, and you left the following as part of a comment to that post of mine: “My poems generally start with a line or phrase that sticks with me and buzzes around my head for a while too. Even then the muse doesn’t hit me very often though. Maybe I should try some similar exercises to see if I can evoke it more often.”

I guarantee, if you learn to apply fully this exercise, it will make you considerably more effective at conjuring your writing muse, and producing quality written work.

If you look at my recent PT post, “The Nightmare”, ( http://image-verse.com/the-nightmare ) you will see an example of a poem conjured with the exercise I outlined.

I had no idea what to write when I began that post. I started doing some ’stream of consciousness free-writing’, as I describe in my aforementioned post.

About 10 minutes into the exercise the word “fantazury” came forth. Not even a real word, but it sparked very brightly in my conscious mind when I wrote it down.

As I ’sounded out loud’ the word fantazury for about five, the poem began to unfold, and ultimately came quickly after that — about 45 minutes and it was complete.

I set it aside for several hours, while I went about reading and answering my emails. I came back to “The Nightmare” after that, and with about 20 minutes of minimum editing — I posted it.

In closing this comment here, I will repeat my answer to your above comment, which you left on my site — I wrote: “Give it a shot! Nothing ventured nothing gained…”
